Perl
Perl is short for Practical Report and Exctraction Language. It is a free largely platform independent language originally developed by Larry Wall. It is powerful in many fields especially pattern matching. The language has a tendancy to look ugly and unreadable. But it is used about everywhere you can find a unix box. Check out perl.org for more information about the language. You'll find here a couple links comparing Java and Perl and ways to access Perl from Java.
