Fortran

Fortran is the oldest programming language around. In those early times where computers had the memory of a average webpage and coding was done in assembly language, the designers of Fortran (a team of IBM super-programmers lead by John Backus) realized the usefulness of a high level programming language. Today, there is still billions of Fortran code around to maintain and programmers write new code everyday. These links direct you to Java/Fortran sites that for example offer products to allow you to call Fortran code from Java.
