JINI
Jini is not an acronym. It is a architecture for creating a environment with services and clients that use these services. Services like an computer appliances application, a database, a printer but also home appliances like a bathtub or a lightswitch. This environment is spontaneously created by plugging in services and clients to the JINI network. Imagine a world where all electronic parts of a house are completely interconnected through JINI. You could do things have your emails be received over a JINI enabled set top box which would be connected to a JINI enabled Hifi that would read out your emails whenever they come in. Cool stuff!
